A Finance Business Partner to support our R&D and IT organizations, ensuring investments in product development, technology infrastructure, and innovation deliver maximum value. You will own all aspects of capitalized development, R&D tax credits and government subsidies, capex, and opex forecasting. Beyond tracking spend, you’ll provide insights to engineering and IT leadership, help evaluate new initiatives, and ensure investments align with roadmap priorities and financial targets.

Key Responsibilities

Cap Dev & Opex Management

  • Own budget vs. actuals for R&D and IT headcount, contractors, and program spend
  • Track capitalization vs. expense in line with applicable accounting rules
  • Build driver-based forecasts and variance analyses

Capex & IT Investment Governance

  • Evaluate and support business cases for tooling, labs, IT infrastructure, and enterprise software
  • Forecast depreciation and track spend vs. plan
  • Partner with IT on vendor negotiations, renewals, and cloud/SaaS spend management

IT Project & Integration Spend

  • Track one-time IT project costs (e.g., ERP, CRM, cybersecurity, infrastructure rollouts) and ensure alignment to project milestones
  • Own budgeting and reporting for acquisition and integration spend, including system migrations, tool consolidation, and one-time consulting costs
  • Separate one-time integration costs from ongoing run-rate IT expenses for clarity in management and board reporting

Cross-Functional Partnering

  • Collaborate with Accounting on capitalization policy and compliance
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and IT on roadmap-to-resource alignment
  • Work with Procurement on Capex and contract approval processes

Strategic Insight & Reporting

  • Provide recommendations on portfolio allocation (innovation, core product, infrastructure)
  • Run scenario planning for roadmap shifts, hiring pace, or funding constraints
  • Develop dashboards and reporting that give leadership real-time visibility

Process Ownership

  • Standardize forecasting and reporting cadence across R&D and IT
  • Automate data flows where possible

R&D Credits & Subsidies

  • Partner with Tax to maximize benefits from R&D credits and government programs
  • Ensure audit-ready documentation and forecast expected credits

Required Skills

  • Strong accounting knowledge and ability to apply relevant rules for capitalization and expense classification
  • Advanced Excel and data modeling skills
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with a collaborative business-partner mindset
  • Curiosity and interest in technology, product development, and IT innovation
  • Experience with R&D tax credits or government subsidy programs a plus

Required Experience

5-8 years of FP&A experience, ideally in Technology/SaaS or Hardware with R&D or IT exposure

The base salary range for this role, across the US, is $115,000 - $135,000. Your actual base pay within this range will be determined by your work location as well as skills, qualifications, experience, and relevant education/training. The range provided reflects only the base salary for the role and does not include benefits.
