The Role

Square is looking for a Business Development professional to join our Japan Sales organisation, reporting to the Business Development Manager based in Japan. From point of sale to eCommerce, there are Square solutions for almost anything. Our eCommerce tools can help merchants sell online and offer curbside pickup or delivery. We help merchants accept all types of payments everywhere they sell - from processing credit and debit cards on their phones, to building custom solutions on our payment platform. Our Point of Sale app helps merchants sell smarter with real-time sales data and intuitive inventory tools, and the ability to customize the app as their businesses grow. Whether merchants want a website, to integrate payments on their existing site, or to work with top eCommerce platforms, Square makes it simple to sell online. Square hardware solutions Reader, Stand and Terminal allow merchants to ring up items quickly in their store and on the go.

As Business Development Representative you will identify and qualify prospective sellers across Japan and articulate how Square can help them grow. You will partner closely with our Japan Sales team to source high-value opportunities that fit the Square ecosystem and collaborate with global teams on cross-functional initiatives. Often the first point of contact for prospective merchants, you will empathise with their diverse needs, communicate Square's value, and schedule meaningful conversations for our Account Executives. We are looking for curiosity, resilience, strong communication skills, and a data-driven approach to sales development.

You Will

  • Maintain current knowledge of the Square product ecosystem and how our solutions can help Japan-based merchants further grow their businesses, keeping up to date with the current industry and product trends
  • Research and prospect potential merchants across Japan, identifying high-quality leads and navigating objections effectively
  • Collaborate with Account Executives (AEs) to align on target accounts, and jointly execute targeted outreach strategies.
  • Use multi-channel outreach methods (phone calls, outreach emails, social media) to qualify prospective customers and schedule meetings for the Account Executive team
  • Build and optimizeoptimise outbound processes,leveraging data to improve email open rates, reply rates, and conversion metrics.Conduct appropriate discovery with customers before handing them off to the Account Executive, gathering key information such as their industry, company size, business challenges, and the tools they currently use.
  • Create a great first impression for prospective Square merchants by using storytelling, case studies and other materials, to inspire them about how Square could benefit their business
  • Consistently attain and exceed your monthly activity and pipeline quotas
  • Use Salesforce and other CRM tools to accurately document all sales activities and capture customer insights, including their challenges and needs identified through customer interactions.

You Have

  • A strong desire to grow your career in sales and business development.
  • A passion for technology and the industry Square operates in
  • At least 2 years of experience working in Sales
  • Experience acquiring new customers through cold calling
  • Some experience in a qualifying or prospecting role with the ability to conduct outbound multi-channel outreach and discerning whether a prospect is a good fit for a product based on discovery conversation
  • The ability to work with Japan-based customers in Japanese (writing and phone), and global Square colleagues in English (reading, writing and video meetings)
  • Curiosity, passion, perseverance, and a drive to exceed goals.
  • The ability to perform in a fast-paced environment
