About the Team:
Salesforce is seeking a Principal Member of Technical Staff - Cloud Service Ownership Engineer to spearhead technical initiatives within our Consumer Goods Cloud organization, with a focus on near core, Hyperforce, and GCP. As a senior technical leader, you will architect and drive the implementation of complex, enterprise-scale platform solutions while mentoring teams and influencing technical strategy. You will be responsible for defining the technical vision for critical infrastructure components and leading cross-functional initiatives that directly impact our ability to deliver secure, reliable software at a global scale.
In this role, you will operate as both a hands-on technical expert and a strategic leader, driving innovation in cloud-native technologies, automation platforms, and developer experience. You will own the architectural change management process for all cloud-related initiatives, documenting impact analysis, communication plans, approval processes, and rollback strategies at one of the world's leading technology companies while building and leading high-performing engineering teams.
What You Will Be Doing:
Lead incident response for critical platform issues and drive comprehensive post-incident improvement programs.
Architect and lead the design of large-scale, multi-region infrastructure platforms and automation systems.
Define technical strategy and roadmaps for Cloud Service Ownership platform evolution and modernization.
Facilitate collaborator reviews and cross-functional meetings to evaluate proposed changes to reference architecture or standards, balancing agility and risk.
Manage post-implementation reviews, capturing feedback to iterate on standards and architectural models.
Partner with Product and Security teams to integrate advanced capabilities and ensure compliance with enterprise requirements (Hyperforce, SDB).
Lead complex migration projects involving critical business systems.
Drive platform reliability initiatives including SLA definition, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
Establish engineering excellence standards, best practices, and governance frameworks across the organization.
Mentor and develop senior and mid-level engineers, providing technical guidance and career development support.
Collaborate with executive leadership on platform strategy, resource planning, and organizational priorities.
Drive innovation initiatives including proof-of-concepts, technology evaluations, and platform research.
Lead vendor relationships and technology partnerships for strategic platform components.
What You Should Have:
8+ years of senior-level experience in DevOps and/or extreme accountable service ownership duties, Platform Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering at enterprise scale.
Proven track record of architecting and implementing large-scale, distributed systems serving thousands of users.
Expert-level programming skills in at least one language such as Python, NodeJS, or Java.
Expert-level mastery of cloud platforms (AWS/GCP) including advanced services and enterprise features.
Deep expertise in containerization platforms (Kubernetes, service mesh, advanced orchestration patterns).
Comprehensive experience with Infrastructure as Code at scale (Terraform Enterprise, custom tooling).
Expert knowledge of CI/CD platform architecture (Jenkins Enterprise, GitHub Actions, custom pipeline orchestration).
Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and platform scalability patterns.
Advanced networking and security expertise including zero-trust architectures and compliance frameworks.
Proven leadership experience including technical mentoring, project leadership, and cross-functional collaboration.
Strong business acumen with the ability to translate technical capabilities into business value.
Technical Leadership & Impact:
Drive architectural decisions for enterprise-wide platform initiatives with multi-million dollar impact.
Establish center of excellence practices and cultivate technical communities within the organization.
Drive organizational transformation initiatives including DevOps maturity advancement and cultural change.
Own platform P&L responsibility including resource optimization and strategic investment planning.
Own the on-call rotation and incident response strategies.
Strategic Responsibilities:
Define long-term technical vision (1-3 year roadmap) for Consumer Goods Cloud near core platform evolution.
Focus on scalability, availability, security, and cost to serve.
Lead organizational scaling initiatives to support continued business growth.

The typical base salary range for this position is $192,200 - $306,600 annually. In select cities within the San Francisco and New York City metropolitan area, the base salary range for this role is $230,800 - $334,600 annually.

The range represents base salary only, and does not include company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity or benefits, as applicable.
