We are hiring a Principal / Architect (L10) Product Designer to help craft the future of Slack’s Mobile offering across handheld, foldable, and tablet deices. Designers serve a vital role here: from creating the experience of new features, to the craft and finish of every detail in the product. We appreciate designers who think deeply, speak clearly, love collaboration and feedback, and have an excellent collection of animated gifs.

What you'll be doing
- Owning the design strategy and standards for Slack’s mobile experience across platforms, ensuring a high quality bar for our shipped applications.
- Ensuring our applications stay up to date with the changes to Operating Systems standards by staying ahead of upcoming releases and devices.
- Lead projects that focus on the core of the Slack experience, ensuring comprehensible information architecture, building best in class patterns, and evolving our offering to meet the unique customer needs for our mobile experience.
- Ensuring the Slack’s design organization is delivering consistent, cohesive, and accessible work to their cross functional partners through advocacy, evangelism, and investing in robust documentation of our design system.
- Ideation and prototyping
- Reviewing, auditing, and critiquing your peers design work for mobile platforms through open office hours and asynchronous workflows.
- Work in close collaboration with Design Leadership to inform and improve our design processes.
- Work cross-functionally with Product and Engineering partners to represent the design team, facilitate design discussions, ensure quality implementation, and play an active role in prioritization and planning.
- Work in the open, comfortably sharing your contributions to solicit feedback from your peers, executives, and cross functional partners.
What you should have
- 7-9 years of experience in an individual contributor role, on a Product Design team with a heavy focus on building experiences for Android and iOS.
- An outstanding portfolio, showcasing excellent application of Product ideation, User centered experiences, and Visual design execution.
- Demonstration of experience and knowledge of building usable, accessible, and modular designs solutions that solve for a wide array of customer archetypes.
- Examples of varying approaches of rapidly prototype concepts individually through design tools, or in close collaboration with engineers, with the goal of bringing alignment of stakeholders of proposed solutions.
- A well displayed understanding of dependencies between design, client and backend technologies and standards.
- Experience that leverages design systems that are used in parallel by designers and engineers.
- Comfort in strategically supporting multiple projects successfully and balancing the needs of different work streams. Collaborating and coordinating across multiple teams and their respective designers.
- Nice to have: Working on personal projects that demonstrate prototyping with code or building your own applications.
