Department Overview - Data & Analytics (DnA) is the force that propels Salesforce into the 4th Industrial Revolution informing through trusted data and artificial intelligence the path forward to be smarter in every dimension. From financial forecasting, customer health, and adoption insights to the utmost trusted and curated data, the Data & Analytics team is the unbiased partner to all data trailblazers at Salesforce. This role will own and lead the product analytics for Industries cloud, and report to the Director, Product Management of GM Experience.

Role Description:

As a Decision Scientist, you will deliver key insights and analyses that help Salesforce Product and Engineering teams make key decisions that shape product strategy, the way we develop products, the way we interact with customers, and much more. You will acquire deep knowledge and understanding of Salesforce products and business goals, build and manage cross-functional relationships, and communicate through digestible, relevant, and actionable storytelling. You will manage data and insights as a product, partnering with data product managers, data engineers, data scientists, ML engineers, visualization engineers, and many other DnA teammates to deliver data products, such as dashboards, ML apps, automation, and much more. You will use business thinking, engineering skills, statistical techniques, and data science practices - such as experimentation, forecasting, clustering, etc. - to wrangle data and deliver relevant and trustworthy insights.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Senior Leadership (VP+) to understand their business and advise on strategic objectives, product direction, roadmaps, growth goals, retention strategies, etc. Develop and own the relationships with senior stakeholders across the company

  • Produce insights (e.g. performance drivers, retention analysis, behavioral personas) to help grow Salesforce Cloud businesses. This requires acquiring, cleaning, and structuring data from multiple sources (e.g. Hadoop, Splunk), and analyzing the data using SQL / Python / Tableau.

  • Develop quantitative analysis, ad hoc reports, and models to support product decision-making.

  • Translate data insights into actions and recommendations that will drive product adoption, customer satisfaction, and investment decisions.

  • Partner with product leaders to understand business requirements, product direction, roadmaps, key metrics, and growth goals.

  • Identify, acquire, consolidate, and manipulate data features from multiple sources including product log files, dimensional data, Salesforce objects, and external data sources to develop models and analyses, and produce insights that will guide product strategy and investment decisions.

  • Partner with the data engineering team and product engineering team to instrument, acquire, develop, and structure data assets that are critical to measuring the products.

  • Create KPIs based on knowledge of the Salesforce business, growth drivers, and industry benchmarks.

  • Design and implement reporting dashboards that track key metrics and performance trends, and provide actionable insights to product leadership.

  • Create visualizations, presentations, and executive summaries that communicate findings to internal stakeholders and executives.

  • Explain complex modeling approaches in simple terms and develop compelling narratives that connect data analysis with business problems.

  • Use best-in-class methods to establish causal relationships between product decisions and customer behavior and sentiment.

  • Contribute to building the data-driven culture in Salesforce.

  • Required Skills

  • 6-12 years of experience in data analytics or data science or a master’s degree in data science, statistics applied mathematics, analytics or a related field, or equivalent alternative education, skills, and/or practical equivalent experience

  • You are proficient in common analytical programming languages (e.g. Python or R) and SQL

  • You understand statistical and machine learning methods such as A/B testing, experiment design, causal inference, quasi-experimental methods, common ML models, recommendation systems, etc.

  • You are familiar with end-to-end data development, including data model design, quality review, deployment, and maintenance

  • You are proficient in telling data stories in a wide range of formats, including slides, charts, and dashboards (e.g. Tableau), and can coherently articulate the business impact of your insights product

  • You can plan projects in detail, set schedules, coordinate resources across product, data, and engineering teams, complete projects end-to-end, and make sure timelines and quality expectations are met.
