The Salesforce Site Reliability Engineering team supporting Marketing Cloud and Data Cloud is modernizing and redefining SRE to optimally manage and scale Public Cloud at Salesforce!

Join us as we partner with our development and infrastructure engineering teams to build ever more reliable services at Salesforce by transforming how we collaborate with our product engineering partners to help them achieve their availability goals.

As a member of the Resilience Engineering team, you will be responsible for partnering on the detection, diagnosis, and resolution of system failures and complex outages, including the creation of the observability tooling vital for your success. You will interact directly with Engineering teams to proactively address issues before they affect performance or availability. Your contributions will positively influence service level objectives, improve service designs, and increase reliability through feedback loops.

Success in this role will entail a strong focus on technical influence, an engineering mindset, demonstrated experience with automation, as well as large-scale/distributed production engineering experience. We blend automation and engineering standard methodologies to remove operational toil, driving self-healing and resilience initiatives including game day exercises. Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience as a systems engineer, developer, or equivalent technical experience.
  • A related technical degree required
  • Ability and experience to participate in the team’s on-call rotation to address availability issues
  • Change Management: Ability to create partnerships, influence and drive structured change as trusted advisors.
  • Programming experience in at least one of the following languages, such as Powershell, Go, Java, Python or Javascript.
  • Demonstrable experience with basic large-scale Internet service architectures (DNS, HTTP, Load Balancing, ...)
  • Experience working with Public Cloud Infrastructure(AWS/GCP/Azure).
  • Proven experience with monitoring and observability standard processes, implementations and administration
  • Good understanding of DevOps Concepts e.g. ability to debug, optimize code, and automate routine tasks.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Windows or Unix/Linux environments with good understanding of operating systems internals (e.g., filesystems, system calls).
  • Ability to operate in a high-pressure environment, troubleshoot sophisticated issues quickly during outages (Incident Management), and successfully handle multiple priorities.
  • Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with a strong sense of ownership and drive.
  • Excellent Communications skills
  • Ability to document technical concepts (knowledge sharing)
  • Comfortable up-skilling and training/mentoring on initiatives across the broader SRE organisation (and possibly partners) ensuring adoption.

Preferred skills:

  • Demonstrable experience with container-based architectures: Docker/ Kubernetes etc.
  • Experience working with third-party developer tools and documentation for APIs, SDKs, and client libraries.
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems.
  • Experience designing and deploying high-performance production services with extensive monitoring and logging practices and their applications to alerting and service health.
  • CI/CD automation experience, including an understanding of key open-source technologies like Jenkins, and Spinnaker.
  • Solid understanding of networking principles, load balancing, and DNS.
  • Good understanding of concurrency and parallelism.
