About the Team
OpenAI’s People team is committed to enabling our organization to grow and operate effectively on a global scale. As we expand into new regions and integrate acquired companies, we play a central role in ensuring our people, processes, and infrastructure are aligned.
This team partners deeply with Finance, Corp Dev, Legal, People Team and executive deal sponsors to design and execute seamless experiences during times of transformation. We thrive at the intersection of strategy and execution, bringing rigor, foresight, and empathy to highly complex operational challenges.
About This Role
We’re looking for a senior leader to build and run OpenAI’s post-acquisition integration and global expansion functions. This role will design the frameworks, lead the execution, and orchestrate cross-functional teams to ensure that new acquisitions and international expansions are successful, sustainable, and aligned with our values and result in a positive employee experience.
You’ll shape and oversee the end-to-end M&A integration and global expansion from a People team perspective strategy—covering compensation, benefits, workforce planning, onboarding, compliance, and people operations. This role is highly strategic and operational, reporting into senior People leadership and partnering closely with executives and leaders across the company.
Your Responsibilities:
Design and lead the M&A integration playbook, ensuring acquired companies and their employees transition seamlessly into OpenAI’s systems, programs, and culture.
Orchestrate cross-functional efforts across Compensation, Benefits, Global Mobility, HR Operations, Onboarding, Finance, and Legal to drive integration milestones.
Lead global expansion initiatives, setting up HR/People infrastructure in new geographies while ensuring compliance with local regulations and alignment with OpenAI practices.
Develop workforce planning models that support scale and integration needs during high-growth or post-acquisition periods.
Manage risk and compliance throughout integration and expansion efforts, ensuring transitions are legally sound, employee-friendly, and operationally efficient.
Continuously improve processes by building repeatable frameworks for M&A integrations and global expansion.
We’re Seeking:
15+ years of experience in M&A integrations, HR operations, global expansion, or related functions, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
A proven track record of leading complex, multi-country post-acquisition integrations, ideally within high-growth or global technology companies.
Deep understanding of HR operations, compensation & benefits, global mobility, compliance, and workforce planning.
Exceptional organizational and program management skills, with the ability to orchestrate multiple workstreams under tight timelines.
Strong executive presence, communication, and influencing skills to drive alignment across senior stakeholders.
Strategic problem-solving ability, with a bias for operational excellence and scalable solutions.
Comfort navigating ambiguity, high-pressure situations, and rapid growth with steadiness and clarity.
Workplace & Location
This role is based in our San Francisco office and we are also considering remote applications. We offer relocation support to new employees, and we use a hybrid work model: three days in the office per week with optional work from home on Thursdays and Fridays.
Our open-plan offices have height-adjustable desks, conference rooms, phone booths, well-stocked kitchens full of snacks and drinks, three in-house prepared meals daily, a private outdoor space for working in the sun or socializing, nap rooms, private bike storage, and more.
