What you'll do

As a Principal Front-End Engineer on the Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the architecture and development of our CLM product and Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM) experiences for DocuSign.

You will accelerate product improvements and lead efforts across multiple engineering teams to modernize our front-end tech stack. Collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders, you will design, deliver and iterate on product experiences that enable our customers to create, review, and manage their agreements more easily. This role demands a high degree of technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to mentor and inspire others to achieve excellence in creating outstanding user experiences that meet our customers' needs.

This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Vice President of Engineering.

Responsibility

  • Define and oversee scalable, reliable, and maintainable front-end architecture for CLM
  • Drive the technical vision and strategy for front-end development, influencing the roadmap and collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of high-quality, scalable, and intuitive user experiences
  • Architect and develop reusable UI components and establish robust front-end infrastructure, optimizing performance and reliability
  • Mentor and guide engineers through design and code reviews, fostering a culture of continuous improvement
  • Work with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver high-quality solutions
  • Stay updated with industry trends, driving innovation and adoption of new tools and practices
  • Advocate for and apply best practices to enhance performance, observability, scalability, and maintainability
  • Make informed technical decisions that balance business objectives, user experience, and sustainability

Job Designation

Hybrid: Employee divides their time between in-office and remote work. Access to an office location is required. (Frequency: Minimum 2 days per week; may vary by team but will be weekly in-office expectation)

What you bring

Basic

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
  • 15+ years of experience in software development
  • 5+ years in a principal front-end engineer role or similar senior leadership position
  • Proven experience leading architecture and design of complex, large-scale front-end systems
  • Experience with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks or libraries like React, Angular, or Vue.js
  • Experience with front-end engineering principals including component-based architecture, state management and responsive design
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, particularly related to front-end deployment and CI/CD pipelines

Preferred

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically about technical challenges
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior front-end engineers
  • Knowledge of front-end development best practices, including accessibility, performance optimization, security and maintainability
  • Proven experience in performance tuning and optimization of front-end applications
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and back-end technologies and how they interact with front-end applications (e.g. RESTful APIs, GraphQL)
  • Experience with cloud platforms and services relevant to front-end development, such as Azure
  • Proven track record of driving front-end technical strategy and influencing cross-functional teams
  • Experience in making architectural decisions that balance short-term needs with long-term scalability and maintainability
  • Ability to innovate and drive the adoption of new tools and practices to enhance front-end development
  • Passion for continuous learning and staying updated with industry trends

Wage Transparency

Based on applicable legislation, the below details pay ranges in the following locations:

California: $195,500.00 - $315,775.00 base salary

Illinois and Colorado: $186,200.00 - $263,000.00 base salary

Washington and New York (including NYC metro area): $186,200.00 - $276,125.00 base salary

This role is also eligible for bonus, equity and benefits.
